Curiosity (original)

$1,250.00

24″ x 24″
oil on canvas
2022

I could not begin to count the number of interactions I have had with seals in my lifetime living on the West Coast, and yet I never tire of seeing them. I remember as a child seeing them from the dock in Deep Bay when I would visit my Grandparents, or from my Grandpa's boat. Each time I visit the K’omoks Estuary in Courtenay I look for their heads to pop out of the water and looking back at me with curious eyes. Sometimes they are mid-hunt and splashing around trying to catch fish.

In 2021 my husband and I were tubing down the Puntledge River and encountered one far further up river than we ever expected, and only a few meters from our tubes!

I honestly never tire of my encounters with these beings. Anyone who has lived long enough on the West Coast has their own story of a memorable encounter with a seal. What's your story?

This painting is part of the on-going series of “half-faces”, depicting a variety of West Coast wildlife, but with only half of their face exposed, acting as a commentary on how we can attempt to, but never fully understand these majestic, wild creatures.

This painting comes ready to hang and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

“Curiosity” is also available as made-to-order paper and canvas prints here.

Shipping fees will be applied at checkout. Free pickup also available in Courtenay, BC.
